Stage 1 - Desired Results
Established Goals:

RI.6.3 - Analyze in detail how a key individual, event, or idea is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in a text (e.g., through examples or anecdotes).

RI.6.4 - Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative, connotative, and technical meanings.

RI.6.6 - Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and explain how it is conveyed in the text.

RI.6.7 - Integrate information presented in different media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively) as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.

Understandings
Students will understand that…
  • Media and technological formats can be used to help understand events that shaped an author’s point of view.
  • An author’s point of view is not limited to a single interpretation
Essential Questions
  • Why is it important to understand an author’s point of view within a given text?
  • Why is it important to be able to explain an author’s point of view?
  • What is the difference between an author’s perspective and their point of view?
Students will know…
  • Use keywords in any context given
  • And understand terms such as connotative, technical and figurative.
  • That being able to think critically is a life too that can’t be exhausted.
Students will be able to…
  • Determine and explain an author’s point of view using evidence given within the text.
  • Use media and other formats to get a clear understanding of a given topic.
  • Think critically and creatively.

  1. Shanakay your ideas are clear and well presented. You have made it so easy to comprehend. Author's point of view presented a lot of challenges for my students last year. By perusing your questions and understandings I am getting some ideas that can be used . Thanks for sharing.
